"I think the President made the right decision to ask for his resignation," said Paul Ryan during a House Republican leadership news conference on February 14. On February 13, 2017, General Flynn resigned. Earlier in the day, Kellyanne Conway said that General Flynn enjoys the FULL CONFIDENCE of President Trump.
An hour later, hours before Michael Flynn resigned, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer released a statement that contradicted Kellyanne Conway's statement: "The president is evaluating the situation. He is speaking to Vice President Pence relative to the conversation the vice president had with Gen. Flynn and also speaking to various other people about what he considers the single most important subject there is: our national security."
A few hours pass, and the Washington Post reports: "The acting attorney general informed the Trump White House late last month that she believed Michael Flynn had misled senior administration officials about the nature of his communications with the Russian ambassador to the United States, and warned that the national security adviser was potentially vulnerable to Russian blackmail, current and former U.S. officials said." About two hours later, this chain of events culminated in General Flynn's resignation.
In recent days, there has been tremendous controversy over the possible lies of General Flynn and/ or Vice President Mike Pence (this could also include others in the Trump administration and even Trump himself) regarding whether or not Flynn contacted Russia about US sanctions prior to Trump's inauguration.
