This is a very common problem from what I have seen with the mini lathes coming out of China. I have actually run across at least one other video on YouTube related to this problem.
So what do we need to do, well I am working with the people that sold this lathe to me, that being audiyeah-1 on eBay. They have been very responsive so far and so no complaints with them, aside from my ongoing complaint that these vendors never actually bring the items that they are selling in house and examine them for form fit and function. The depend instead on the quality control from the Chinese factories, which is never a good idea.
The lathe has a couple of other issues, but they can be worked around for now. The tail stock issue is however something that is not easily worked around. It directly affects the ability to drill and ream holes in parts with any accuracy.
The solution of course is an adapter plate for this that actually fits the ways of the lathe. The one that is on my lathe looks like it was designed for an even smaller lathe. The V notch is too shallow, the plate does not even get close to the far side of the bed and the plate is sitting at an angle due to the shallow V notch.
So I will keep you posted on the progress in getting this issue fixed by the manufacturer.
P.S. As a small note, audiyeah-1 has offered me some money if I fix this problem myself. This is not something that I really want to do, because if I go down that path, I will most likely end up building a whole new tail stock of my own design.
So if you like what I am doing, please hit the like button and think about subscribing. The lathe that I bought came from this eBay page.
