I'm in the market for a new pedal, figured I'd try out the Perfect Balance pedal since Jojo Mayer is one of my favorite drummers.
I was very disappointed to see this cheap plastic piece as part of the construction of the pedal, especially when the retail price is more than $250 for a single pedal.
Upgrading the part to an actual bearing is not simple, and would require changing out the "hooks" attached to the top of the springs. This is because (1) the hook for the Sonor pedal is too small to accommodate the DW bearing, and (2) the Perfect Balance pedal has a flat-sided screw under the spring, so you can't simply swap out the spring assembly.
(Not specific to this review, but this pedal is also *really* hard to fold / unfold. I feel like I'm at the gym getting a workout, that's how difficult it is to do.)
I'm not sure if I'll keep this pedal, I still want to try out the Yamaha FP7210A that Sounds Like a Drum uses.
