An interview in USA , 1977.
[A leader of the Conservative party. Not yet a PM of GB.]
There CANNOT be (real) political freedom WITHOUT (real) economic freedom (in the whole economy) - of (the ppl of) a country, a region!
The (existence of) FREE MARKET (laissez faire capitalism), lovely Josephine, is a prerequisite to NOT lose the political freedom!
When the State (Government) (totally) owns or controlls the economics (of a nation or a region)
then: there's poorness, there's no (real) prosperity, there's tyranny
i.e. there's (hard) statism i.e. (polit & economic) totalitarianism!
4:40 On Consensus VS Convictionss
(i.e. Pragmatic compromise vs Practical agreement)
Conviction politics is the practice of campaigning based on a politician's own fundamental values or ideas rather than attempting to represent an existing consensus or simply take positions that are popular in polls.
On the right,
the term has been adopted by politicians like Margaret Thatcher, who declared,
"I am not a consensus politician. I am a conviction politician!" - says the Iron Lady in 1979, a few months before her election as prime minister.
Margaret Thatcher:
Consensus has reared its head. You must have a consensus. It's a word again, you use not to use when I first came in politics.
We had convictions. And we tried to persuade people that our convictions were the right ones.
And it is no good to have convictions
unless you have the will to translate those convictions into actions!

But politics was more if you had convictions than a matter of multiple maneuverings to get through the problems of the day. I often think that when you are going for consensus so often it means that those who believe as I believe tend to give in to the left wing and you move steadily further and further left.""
