Ceballos, a native of Toluca, Mexico, was nominated for his tireless devotion to designing conservation strategies for endangered species and threatened ecosystems, work which has begun to redefine global conservation priorities. He was a key proponent of Mexico's first Act for Endangered Species that now protects more than 4,000 species.
