Kawasaki’s P-1 maritime patrol aircraft has taken center stage at the Paris Air Show, marking its debut at a major international trade show, and the first time a Japanese military aircraft has visited Le Bourget. The four-engines "fly by light" aircraft was developed by Japan as a replacement for its fleet of Lockheed P-3 Orions. Although acting as a substitute for P-3 Orion, on paper P-1 has a function equal to P-8 Poseidon. It can deploy up to 100 sonobuoy in single flight and fire anti-ship missiles (AGM-45 Maverick).
