The United Nations on Wednesday (16/8) accused the Croatian Army
of committing human rights violations by looting and burning
homes formerly owned by Serbs. UN military observers say hundreds
of homes and farms all over Krajina are being set alight by the
Croats in an apparent attempt to dissuade Serbs from returning to
the region. Forty five separate fires in several villages were
reported on Wednesday (16/8) alone and UN spokesman Alun Roberts
has accused the Croats of carrying out a systematic programme of
arson. UN spokesman Alun Roberts says the burnings are a very
serious human rights violation.
