David Michael demonstrates the Phrygian mode on a Celtic harp. Think Flamenco (Spanish, Moorish,Gypsy, Jewish): the minor 2nd gives that deep, passionate quality. This harp is tuned with 4 flats. (A-flat major key signature) Moving the tonic two steps up the major scale without changing key signature gives us C-Phrygian
A good example of a Phrygian piece is one that my wife Dari wrote called Chantilly Mae. (Title piece from our CD by the same name) The piece was featured by CNN International on a program about Copenhagen called My City My Life. Sample the music here: [ Ссылка ]
