STORYLINE:
The world got its first glimpse of new automobile innovations at the 74th Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday.
The show is open to the public from March 4-14.
Switzerland has no automobile industry of its own, which means that all manufacturers are on an equal footing at the show.
More than 700,000 visitors are expected to attend this year's event.
Next year the Geneva Motor Show will celebrate its centenary and its 75th anniversary as an international show.
This year, it features more than 50 world premieres.
One of the most prominent is a new experimental Rolls Royce.
The new model is called the 100EX and has been designed to commemorate the company's 100th anniversary on May 4.
The car, which was introduced in Geneva by Rolls Royce CEO Tony Gott, will appear at various events throughout 2004 to help mark the centenary.
But the company, owned by German car giant BMW, does not currently plan to produce the 100EX as a series model.
