Extended aeration is a method of sewage treatment using modified activated sludge procedures. It is preferred for relatively small waste loads, where lower operating efficiency is offset by mechanical simplicity.
In the extended aeration process, the raw sewage goes straight to the aeration tank for treatment. The whole process is aerobic. and the BOD removal efficiency of the extended aeration process is higher than the activated sludge process.
