Mmm, hmmm, mmm-hmmm-mmm-hmmm
Mmm, hmmm, mmm-hmmm-hmmmTrack 9 from his sixth solo album “Backless” released in 1978 copyright RSO Records. It was again recorded at Olympic Studios in London and received above average reviews. It reached No. 8 on the Billboard chart and achieved Platinum status almost immediately. It was Clapton’s most laid-back release and some consider it a tribute to J.J. Cale. After the huge success of his previous album “Slowhand” the material on this one was considered weaker in comparison. I feel it’s underrated and hasn’t gotten the respect it deserves. This was the last album to include his band of four years, as George Terry and Marcy Levy left to pursue other endeavors. Written by Eric Clapton and produced by Glyn Johns. RIP Carl Radle & Jamie Oldaker. Featuring:
Eric Clapton – Lead vocals, lead, rhythm & acoustic guitars
Special Guests:
George Terry – Lead & rhythm guitars
Dick Sims – Hammond B-3 organ & keyboards
Carl Radle – Bass & background vocals
Jamie Oldaker – Drums, percussion & background vocals
Marcy Levy – Background vocals, lead vocal on “Roll It” & harmonica on “Early in the Morning”
Benny Gallagher – Background vocal on “Golden Ring”
Graham Lyle – Background vocal on “Golden Ring"
He gave to you a golden ring
It made you happy, it made you sing
And I played for you on my guitar
It didn't last long, we didn't go far
And though the times have changed, we're rearranged
Will the ties that bind remain the same?
You came around after a while
Everyone said that I made you smile
It all went well and suddenly then
You heard that he would marry again
And though the times have changed, we're rearranged
Will the ties that bind remain the same?
Well I know that I have been here before
I've trod on your wings, I've opened the door
If I gave to you a golden ring
Would I make you happy, would I make you sing?
Though the times have changed, we're rearranged
Do the ties that bind remain the same?
Oh the times have changed, they're rearranged
Will the ties that bind remain the same?
