TRANSCRIPT: A surgical oncologist is someone who's a general surgeon but has done specialty training in oncology- or cancer. My specialty training specifically has been in breast surgery. That's a separate fellowship. In that fellowship, all we do is focus on breast care. We learn about not only other surgical aspects, but we also learn a little bit about plastic surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, radiology. We learn about the whole multidisciplinary care of the patient. So someone who is fellowship-trained in surgical oncology or breast surgery has very intense knowledge of the latest treatments and the best options for patients.
