Howdy ya’ll. Today we will discuss briefly the history behind the stereoscope (the little invention that swept the world after the 1851 Great Exhibition). These stereoscopes could view “3D” images, and eventually this technology was made much more affordable, hence why we have so many remarkable stereoscopic images that survive (as well as many being kept on glass “slides” as opposed to on flimsier film or developed photograph).
In today’s video we will discuss this history, and then we will travel across the world, spending our Saturday night much like someone in the mid to late 1800’s might have; viewing the most amazing images (in our lovely stereoscope; or in stereoscopic 3D) to try to learn more about our realm.
