Hello YouTube, Todd Ault here, and Welcome to Wall Street Words! Today's Wall Street term is "Sector"
Sector or the breakdown or definition of the economy. Let's say "automotive sector," "telecommunications sector." Sectors are important because we can delineate what's happening in a specific industry, breakdown and analyze that. Some people invest in what's called "Sector Spiders." These ETFs invest in very specific Sectors like health care, biotech, banking. These Sectors are important to identify what's happening, particular trends that are happening in those areas. And they generally make up the entire market. Today's word is Sector, an important part of understanding how one particular Sector is doing over another.
Hey, as a side note, Sector investing is really important. Sometimes if a Sector is doing really well, analysts and investors, hedge fund managers, traders will look down the line to see if there's other companies that they can invest in that may get that lift. that "rising tide lifts all boats." Right now, EV stocks are hot, so people are investing in a lot of different Sectors inside the EV space. You can also look at Sectors as a "Sub-Sector." So, if you're an EV car manufacturer, maybe there's a battery manufacturer in a different Sector. Hey, another side note you should consider is sector investing is a lot easier today than it used to be. These ETFs are spiders that allow you to pick very particular investments in different trading vehicles where you go in and out of Sectors that you may want to invest in. Consider those, obviously always talk to an investment professional before investing. This is not investment advice, but Sectors and Sector Investing can be very lucrative if done right. Today's word is Sector, an important investment category to think about when you're making a specific investment in a particular Sector.
Definition - An area of the economy in which businesses share the same or a related product or service. It can also be thought of as an industry or market that shares common operating characteristics. Dividing an economy into different sectors allows for more in-depth analysis of the economy as a whole.
