Not the best place to enjoy a siesta!
A very unusual scene captured by our in-house photographer, Will Fortescue, of a lion stuck up a tree while elephants graze below.
"This young male had been having a nap in a fig tree, when a herd of elephant passed underneath. He’d seen them coming but chose not to get down before they arrived, instead remaining in the tree. The elephants were aware but clearly not bothered by the observer and the two parties, famous for not getting on, seemed to let the other get on with life. This lasted for about half an hour before the lion decided he’d had enough and jumped down to join the 3 lioness’ already on the ground. This sparked a reaction from the elephants who chased the four of them away and then moved on to another tree. One of the more bizarre moments I’ve had on safari" ~ Will Fortescue.
