One of the most iconic towns in all of D&D, it's strange how it held its popularity considering it's not a gigantic metropolis, it's the center of the world, isn't even a capitol. It's a small logging village in Northern Karameikos with a few thousand people living there. There's no schools of magic, it's not holding back any great evils, it's not even the start of a great campaign. It's just a town on the edge of civilization. One that launched countless gaming campaigns and is still fondly remembered. Because it wasn't fancy, it wasn't important, but it was home.
