Brown Sugar is missing, as is the beginning of Bitch and the very beginning of Midnight Rambler. But the band is hot, so hot that this is a real contender for best show of the 72 tour, for me anyway. This new version is much cleaner than the old one, which had digital dropouts from a bad CD copy. And great sound when the mic isn't being moved around, which isn't all that much. It was great to find this because after hearing the 1st version it was obvious that there was a better source out there somewhere. I was considering trying to locate an original vinyl copy when this popped up. Now I won't have to spend who knows how much getting vinyl or ordering different CD versions till I find a good one. That's how much I like this show. Some people don't care for the ragged edge of complete cocaine craziness that was the 72 tour. I find it quite bracing. Like the version of ADTL here. The band is so cranked up they fail to stop at the end of the song. It's incredible.

"The odor of marijuana floated through the air within 20 minutes after the show started. And by intermission, the smell hovered over the Coliseum floor so that non-smokers said they were feeling the effect just from breathing." [Flip note: Always safest to light up your dope after the lights go down in this era, especially in the South, where penalties for possession were particularly draconian.]

"The legend is here and there's Mick. Ape-lipped, pouting, strutting, red sash from his waist wisping the floor, brown leather jacket, yellow scarf, white jumpsuit. And makeup. Blue eye shadow driving to his temples crawling with sequins, blush on his cheeks, a red diamond blotch on his forehead reaching to the bridge of his nose, and orange lips. White shoes flashing when he gets moving, which he's doing pretty good... But somewhere in there his Satanic thing has already come into play because on one of those close-in turns, what looks like a crushed can floats up into the light and kisses him in the mouth. But he just turns with it and dances on and you aren't sure if it happened or not. "I think I'll have Keith sing 'Happy fawh ya'. Would ya lak that?" Would we like that? Hell, it's dynamite. And old Keith smiling with that discolored front tooth, hair with touches of frosting, gold earring dangling from his left ear... Standing ten feet off the mic he cuts his riff and roosters to the mic. One of the sea of outstretched hands along the lip of the stage has grabbed Jagger's flowing sash and is determinely [sic] pulling him toward his admirers. But somehow Jagger crouches and pulls back with little chopping steps and is away, free, dancing. Jagger was whipping himself and his band into a frenzy. "Street Fightin' Man" and Jagger was swooping madly around the stage going to every corner, jumping gesturing to all corners of the now illuminated arena. ...a dervish, hurling rosepetals [sic] into the crowd. Wyman, still inscrutable, but allowing an occassional [sic] flicker of amusement as he pumped his bass line. [Flip note: One of the hallmarks of a great Stones show is that almost everybody, onstage and off, is smiling. And dancing.] Watts pounding away faithfully, his triceps popping out like those of a hod carrier. And Mick Taylor's cool, perfect soloes [sic] on the edge of Jagger's maelstrom. And Bobby Keys and his sax occasionally receiving a blown kiss from Mick, while Nicky Hopkins, looking hopelessly fagged and strung-out, pounds the piano as if it is the only thing between life and permanent exile in the gutter. And then it was over."
