CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Let us sing praise to the God of all creation.
ALL: Let us sing praise to the Spirit who gives life to all.
Leader: Let us sing praise to Jesus, in whom the fullness of God was pleased to dwell,
ALL: That everything and everyone in all of creation might be reunited with God through Christ.
OPENING PRAYER
HYMN | “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” | Glory to God, # 65
CALL TO CONFESSION
Challenges in life can cause us to doubt God’s love. But God’s love is shown for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Therefore, with confidence in God’s love, let us confess our brokenness and receive new life.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Leader: Holy One, we confess that we too often doubt that you have already overcome the power of sin and death. We are more in touch with the pains of our weakness than with the power of your love.
ALL: In fear, we worship idols of our making. In despair, we collapse in hopelessness. In rage, we strive to dominate others.
Leader: Creator God, forgive us, and grant us peace.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION
SCRIPTURE | Mark 6:1–13
He left that place and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded. They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him? What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?’ And they took offense at him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honor, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, and in their own house.’ And he could do no deed of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was amazed at their unbelief.
Then he went about among the villages teaching. He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, ‘Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.’ So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
Holy Wisdom, Holy Word. Thanks be to God!

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD
For those worshiping at home: Please take the elements you have at home, and eat whatever kind of bread you have, and drink whatever cup you have prepared. The bread is the body of Christ, the bread of heaven, and the cup is the blood of Christ, the cup of salvation. Take and eat. Take and drink.
