An explosives scare that caused police to lock down Parliament Hill on Saturday and drew investigative resources from major national security services appears to have been based on bad information, two senior Canadian intelligence sources told Global News.
The initial tip was detailed, sources said Sunday, and included names, photographs and licence plate numbers. At least two people were also detained during the investigation but later released. However, multiple sources said that the searches turned up no explosives and Ottawa police determined there was no imminent threat to the public.
Mercedes Stephenson has exclusive details on the investigation and what questions are now being raised.
