Have a look at this very beautiful Pecking Sparrow. To make this Pecking Sparrow you require a matchbox, a thin wire, card fulcrum and of course a card sheet sparrow. First fold the U shaped fulcrum which will have two holes. Place the bird in the fulcrum and weave a wire through them. Bend the ends of the wires into loops. The wire will become like a see-saw hinge and the bird will be able to rock on it. Place a drop of rubber glue on top of an empty matchbox. Paste the card fulcrum with the bird on the matchbox. On pressing the head or the tail the bird will rock. This is the view of the toy from the side. Take 6-cm of thin wire. Poke and fix one end of the wire in the edge of the drawer. Weave the other end of the wire in the bird’s tail and fix it there. Bend the other end of the wire so that it does not come out. Now hold the matchbox with one hand and push-pull the drawer with the other hand. You will be surprised to see that the bird will be pecking at grains. This dynamic toy costs no money and will make the poorest children happy! This work was supported by IUCAA and Tata Trust.
