Ejection seats are a system designed to rescue the pilot of a military aircraft in an emergency. In most designs, the seat is propelled out of the aircraft by an explosive charge or rocket motor, carrying the pilot with it. The pilot typically experiences an acceleration of about 12–14g. Soviet era technology has seen pilots experiencing accelerations up to 20–22g. The human can stand such high G forces for very short periods of time. Interesting fact, since some pilots may naturally try to save the airplane and delay their ejection, they are psychologically trained in advance to accept such situations do occur, and to activate the ejection seat without hesitation before it becomes too late.
