Music historian, author & radio personality Marcus Chapman talks to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, and whether kids are really learning the MLK legacy in school on Chicago hip-hop station 107.5 WGCI. Monday January 20, 2003. "Prior to this interview I was given specific instructions not to ask the Mayor about the negative attitude his late father Richard J. Daley had towards Dr. King when he was Chicago's mayor in the 1960s. Dr. King said the racism he experienced in Chicago was even worse than in the south. I really wanted to talk about that, but I was told not to ask any questions that might upset the mayor and damage the relationship between him and the station. I understood, but if I could do it all over again I would find a way to work that into the conversation."-MC
