On Part 3 of Anthony "Bingie" Arillotta, he discusses his demise and how his world of La Cosa Nostra all came crashing down on him. In the end, he learned that Cosa Nostra is a den of thieves and scams and hustlers who just wanted to use him to their advantage. Which I suspected at a young age. Not to say there weren't, or still aren't, some men of honor who follow the rules and treat their men fairly. I knew a couple. They took that oath and the rules very seriously. BUT, envy, jealousy, and resentment often skew a mans way of thinking. When they feel threatened by a guy, or his allure, or growing power, they exhibit Machiavellian deception and often make up lies or even try to kill a guy. Detroit has always been a family that has been held together by real blood family, and thus there has always been much less of this envy and Machiavellian deception and backstabbing. Still, when an organization is made up of cons, liars, thieves, and hustlers, there really are no rules. It is all a sham. Fans of the mob don't get that. They see movies and TV shows. They dream of the power and prestige. But what they dont register is the loss of life, the years in prison. The deception. Your own best friend could put a bullet in your head because someone above you feels threatened. If you could be made to fall on the sword to take a fall for something you dint even do. If you have never done time in prison, a long time, then you can't even imagine the regret some guys feel when looking back on their decisions to get involved with such people. On paper it all looks good. Then when you are sitting in a cell, while your people in the street don't even bother to send a letter, you reevaluate why you were involved. If I had it to do over, I would have joined the marines or something-. Maybe even became a DNR officer. Or gone to college. I wouldn't have lost those 13.3 years. More if I include the county bits. Not to mention all the pain and suffering I put my lobed ones through. I think Anthony is a good example to young guys who glorify that life. Nobody can be trusted. The man who sponsored him tried to kill him over selling misdemeanor weed. All because he as angry he didnt get a cut of this profits he dint help earn. The mafia is a panther or cons and liars who recruit young guys to be patsies. I make you, you pay me and do dirty work so I can sit in a bar and get drunk with the boys while you take all the risks. The wealthiest men I know were never involved in the mafia. They never did time in prison. They never had go look over their shoulder or lay awake at night wondering if this was my last free night on earth. I know that feeling, and do Not miss it one bit. I am happy to be a square. They can have the power and indulgence. No matter if they are the boss of a street grunt, none of them will live the great life of a free civilian who makes his fortune legally. I am sure Anthony would agree. If he had it to do over, he would have done the smart thing and just invested in a legit business. We even talked about that privately. He said he knew he cold have tapped into legal markets and been an even bigger success. I agree. Had I had the prescience to just focus on legit endeavors, I would be a multi millionaire now and never lost 13 years of my life. Hindsight 2020. I hope some young men read this, or watch the show, and it sinks in that this isn't a movie. This is a horrible existence. Take it from us. We have been there in our own respective ways, I believe Anthony is generally a good guy who regrets the choices he made. I dont think he is a sociopath who got pleasure from killing and crime. Those were just necessities to further his career. Not something he enjoyed. And I do feel he regrets what happened to Al Bruno. I can see it in his eyes when he talks about him, But Bruno also made his bed, and had to lay in it. I wish nothing but the best for Anthony and believe he will be successful at whatever he sets his mind to. I hope to see a book from him someday, really gelling his story through his eyes. That would be interesting.
