New York City Mayor Eric Adams says that it's time to get serious about the overflow of migrants entering the US. Mayor Adams says, "We have been treating this major shift in the human movement globally as a minor cold when in fact it is a major flu." During his trip through Latin America, the mayor met with the Foreign Minister of Ecuador. Mayor Adams also traveled to Mexico, Colombia and Panama before returning home. The bishop for the Catholic Diocese of El Paso, Bishop Mark Seitz, joins to share what the stance of the Church should be on the topic of immigration. Pope John Paul II said we should "defend against the unjust restriction of migration and give attention to the rights of migrants, even those doing so illegally." Bishop Mark discusses how we adhere to that teaching when the illegal immigration situation seems so dire and in many situations dangerous. He tells us whether the Church or USCCB is looking to shape government policy. Bishop Mark explains what the USCCB is recommending in terms of charitable outreach to migrants and whether he worries about diminishing returns, especially in places like Texas, New York City and Chicago.
