ValuJet Flight 592, a DC-9 was a flight between Miami and Atlanta on May 11, 1996. On board were 105 passengers as well a 5 crew members.
The Crash:
The left Miami at 2:04pm. At 2:10pm, passengers began to smell smoke in the cockpit and at the same time, the pilots heard a loud bang as the aircraft lost electricity. Fire broke out into the cabin. The pilots turned the airplane around to land back at Miami, but the pilots lost control and went into a steep dive and crashed into the Everglades causing a big muddy explosion. All 110 on board perished. The cause of the fire was discovered to be an accidental triggering of a chemical oxygen generator improperly shipped as non-hazardous cargo.
