Today is the 33rd anniversary of this single's release. I was so happy to get the Japanese 3" CD single when it came out, as it was never released anywhere else in the WORLD. I was a bit concerned when I played it, though- where were the remixes? Where were the club versions? This is the first Dead Or Alive single to not offer any sort of a 12" version since they had signed with Epic / Sony back in 1983. It did have an instrumental version, though- and this is a mix I've heard in my head (more or less) since that day back in 1990- just after Christmas- when the UPS package from Record Runner delivered this. I used ONLY the album and instrumental version to create this.
It was another successful Japanese release, but vinyl pressing plants were being phased out of that country by then. The club DJ's there had to rely on British manufacturers to press the promo only 12" singles, which were strictly limited for that reason. I know the album was delayed nearly a month because of problems getting it to Japan in time; I wonder if the 12" singles arrived early enough in Japan to be useful promotional tools by the clubs. The B-side was the holiday song, "Blue Christmas", a bona fide ballad- was another first for Dead Or Alive. Both songs had been debuted a few weeks earlier at the "Fan The Flame" concerts in Japan, although Your Sweetness was an acoustic snippet designed to close the show.
