“Within hours of the crime, this violent thug was taken into custody,” stated Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “He’s lucky to be sitting in the Lee County Jail, because entering someone’s home like that could have ended very differently.”
In the early morning hours of January 6, 2022, deputies responded to a home invasion robbery on Breeze Drive in North Fort Myers.
Detectives with our Violent Crimes Unit arrived on scene and learned that the suspect entered the victim’s residence, armed with a shotgun, and demanded money, jewelry, and drugs. He then fled the residence on foot with the victim’s wallet, cash, and a necklace.
The suspect was soon identified by detectives as Bobby Gene Collins (DOB 01/01/2006).
Collins new hair dye didn’t trick our deputies, because with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, he was tracked down and located just hours after the crime and taken into custody.
Collins was charged with Home Invasion Robbery with a Firearm. He is now booked at the Lee County Jail.
