The St. Baldrick's Foundation (SBF) raises awareness for pediatric cancer by shaving heads, and raising money through the participants, whom we call "shavees." Millions of dollars have been raised this way for pediatric cancer research.
This year's event will be held at Nemours Children's Clinic, April 28th, from 4p-6p. There will be entertainment from the Big Orange Barbershop singers, clowns and face-painting for the kids, head-painting for all and food (sponsored by Chick Fil-A).
Great stigma often comes with hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment, especially for kids. With this event, we can send a powerful message to our students, our children, our loved ones, our community and kids fighting cancer right now, while raising money and drawing attention to the fact that pediatric cancerthe NUMBER ONE killer of childrenis terribly under-funded.
Last year, more than 42 people in Jacksonville shaved their heads for this cause, of all ages and including three women and the entire Baracudas ice-hockey team!
This year, we need your help. If you can't shave your head, there are plenty of ways to get involved....tell 5 friends, volunteer, or donate to a shavee at www.stbaldricks.org.
