"The Greatest Airmen" was recorded at "The Planes of Fame" air show in May of 2014. This was the first time that Nancy and I had attended Chino and it was certainly worth the drive down from the SF Bay Area. Temperatures must have been near record for that time of year, topping out at 99 degrees.
Upon reviewing the footage on the long drive home, I decided to cut the piece to music and probably without engine sounds. I found the music "United We Stand" and knew the selection was powerful enough to carry the video. It took about a week to complete.
While editing the video, I reflected upon not just the graceful beauty of these powerful machines, but also on the men and women who "saved our bacon" before most of us were born, and the sacrifices that they made.
I am thankful that we have met many of these heroes (pilots and support crew) over the years and found them to be humble, down to earth people who were just doing what they needed to do to save America, and of course, the world.
"Proud to be an American" has, and still does have meaning. It's not just a catch-phrase to be taken lightly.
So enjoy the video and pass it on to others, who like most of us, have probably spent countless hours building model airplanes, flying and reading books and magazines on the exploits of "The Greatest Airmen!"
