Nikole Hannah-Jones, Pulitzer-prize winning journalist, MacArthur Genius Award winner was the featured speaker at an International Human Rights Day virtual event, Thursday, December 10, 2020 – 6:30 PM. Hanna-Jones, a Waterloo native, participated in a one hour conversation with local leaders. Local participants include: Director Abraham L. Funchess, Jr. Waterloo Commission on Human Rights; Reverend Dr. Dave Kivett, Cedar Heights Community Presbyterian Church; and NAACP President LaTanya Graves.
International Human Rights Day is celebrated every year world-wide on December 10. “This year as we ‘Stand Up for Human Rights’ we are proud, privileged and ecstatic to engage nationally-renown journalist and native of Waterloo Nikole Hannah-Jones, who has influenced state and national discourse on issues of race and racial equity,” says Funchess. “Show your support for human rights by tuning in to this historic online discussion.”
