Taiwan, officially known as the Republic of China, held its general election on Saturday (Jan 13). The ruling Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) candidate Lai Ching-te won the election after candidates of opposition parties- Hou Yu-ih of the Kuomintang (KMT) and Ko Wen-je of the Taiwan People's Party (TPP) conceded defeat.
