September's Ask the Mito Doc webcast was a moderated panel discussion sharing the impact and highlights from the Mitchondrial Medicine 2022 Symposium in Phoenix, AZ. The moderator for the webcast was Dr. Philip Yesky, UMDF Science and Alliance Officer. The panel included: Dr. Amy Goldstein and Dr. Sonal Sharma from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Dr. Andrea Gropman from Children's National Hospital in D.C. Dr. Mary Kay Koenig from UT Health, McGovern Medical School in Houston, Texas and Dr. Kumarie Latchman from the University of Miami, Miami Florida.
With over 400 people in attendance, it was the first in person event for the UMDF in over three years. The panel highlighted important outcomes from both the family and scientific programs. Topics included reproductive options for mitochondrial disease patients, improving clinical trial outcomes, ICU care for mito patients, managing movement disorders and mitochondria in space.
