Altruism does not demand you to help others when or if you want to, it demands you to put your interests lower than the interest of others. Have you wondered why should somebody else's interest be more important than yours? Well, it shouldn't and more importantly it can't. Don't forget that every dictatorship has been built on the morality of altruism.
