How to solve lost iTunes library in an updated Mac Os (above High Sierra)
where ‘Itunes’ is now called ‘Music’. At own risk. Please read NOTE before start!
1. Rename ‘iTunes’ folder into ‘Music’ (on HD or External Disk).
2. Rename ‘iTunes Media’ into ‘Media’
3. Rename ‘iTunes Library.xml (or .itl) into ‘Music Library.musiclibrary’.
4. Make sure the path to this ‘Media’ folder is correct in the preferences of the program ‘Music’ should look sort of like this: ‘Disk/username/Music/Media’ (by ‘files’ in preferences of Media - the new iTunes)
5. Import this ‘Music Library.musiclibrary’ in your so called ‘Music/old iTunes’ by importing via ‘Music’ program or select ‘Library’. (Could be CASE sensitive).
6. Wait. (Depending on your amount of music and playlist). Could take hours - leave it.
7. Extra: log into iCloud account to collect all your bought files into this ‘new (/old)’ Library file called ‘Music Library’ where all the metadata is collected (for your music and playlists).
8. Should be solved now.
Let me know if it worked following these exact steps!
NOTE:
Always make a backup before you start changing anything!
Especially when updating your Mac! AND...
Check the compatibility of your Mac with the wanted software/OS update!!
