DAY 1
Took public transport to the hotel. We stayed at Sonder Henri on 24th as it was the best location we found for a *reasonable price*... still pricey but not as bad as other hotels and we each had our own bed. We chilled and napped, and then in the evening we headed to a rooftop bar called The Roof at PUBLIC Hotel And then headed for our reservation at Casino NYC. It’s super dark in there so I barely got any videos, but the food and cocktails were really tasty so if you can get a reservation, I definitely would go.
DAY 2
The next morning (Saturday) we got up early and grabbed some bagels at a chain near our hotel called Zucker Bagels & Smoked Fish. The bagels were good, but really expensive, and with a small egg salad mine came to over $21. We were hungry and needed something to eat, but otherwise, would recommend finding a bagel for cheaper although they are hard to come by if you want lots of stuff inside. After that, I was craving a matcha, so we went to Cha Cha Matcha which I’d heard about and I ordered a pumpkin spice iced oat matcha because *why not*. It was good, but would have probably rather gotten a regular (and had a better matcha later in the week). We quickly went to the Sample Sale nearby and then dropped off our stuff at the hotel. Most of our Saturday was spent in the Lower East Side where we went in and out of shops. Put Sweet Pickle Books into your GPS and then just walk around the area as there are so many good finds, pizza and vintage shops. It started pouring so we called an Uber and headed to lunch at Cosme. This may have been one of THE BEST DISHES OF MY LIFE. It was so simple, yet SO tasty and the hot sauce just made it even better. Corn cream omelette - unreal. Go to Cosme, it’s amazing. The staff were also incredibly nice. The evening was spent meeting my lovely college friend Sarah who I adore, and we went out for dinner (it wasn’t the best but the cocktails were nice) and to a Speak Easy in Chelsea-is area that was above a Five Guys, not sure they name but maybe ask around or have a google.
DAY 3
On Sunday, we woke up and headed out to the Upper West Side to grab breakfast and have a browse at Zabar’s. Highly recommend, and I’m a sucker for a marble cake and soup so that is exactly what I had for breakfast. Liberty’s (my friend I travelled with) bagel was amazing but still was about $17-19. Grabbed a coffee & a matcha at MAST MARKET afterward, so cute and I bought a book and a few other bits there. We walked over to the Flea Market (it’s like 2 blocks from Zabar’s) and got some half sour pickles, MY FAVOURITE. If you haven’t tried, you need to. Then had a wander through Central Park after some vintage shopping at the flea and then went back to the hotel to get ready to go to a broadway show. At some point we also went to Veselka (a Ukrainian restaurant) and had the most amazing food - I had meatballs. We saw Shucked that evening and it was very funny, but definitely a long show, so bring snacks and get a drink while you’re there.
DAY 4
On Monday we had a slow morning and grabbed a coffee before doing a barre class at Barre3 in Greenwich Village. If you like more aerobic barre classes, then that’s for you, whereas I found it hard to be coordinated haha but I’m not the best at dancing. The staff were so nice though. We grabbed lunch at Rubirosa (a late lunch) which was delicious - maybe one of the best salads I’ve eaten (it was super simple but delicious) and walked in and out of the shops. I grabbed a matcha at Matchaful which I had heard about - it was really tasty, I got the Zen one, but would recommend drinking it quickly if you get the oils put in as it got oily on the top after I’d walked with it for a little. Would definitely try a regular one or iced next time I’m in NYC.
DAY 5
On Tuesday, I went to a SolidCore class (they are so good) via Classpass (because Classpass works all over the world) and then met Liberty to check out of our hotel. We grabbed a bite of lunch at Whole Foods on the Upper East Side, their hot bar is so good. I headed to the airport via a car organised by our hotel so went back to get the car and then had my overnight flight back to London!
