Kia ora and welcome back to Civilization V! Today I'm playing as the Moroccan Empire in Civ 5, and in a classic Arabia vs Morocco in civ 5 kind of guide, I'll be discussing the true power of Morocco - a civ soo unbelievably rich and wealthy in gold that it can achieve perfectly balanced game levels of exploits in very large, peaceful maps with plenty of desert tiles!

Morocco in civ 5, much like in civ 6 is all about trade, yielding an additional 3 gold and 1 culture per trade route with each unique civ and city state in the game. It's unique tile improvement, in place of a unique building, the 'Kasbah' offers +1 Food, +1 gold, and +1 production and may only be built on desert tiles. Stack that with desert hills/ flood plains and those are some fast 5+ yield tiles for your growing trading empire in civ! The strategy firms up as a rich, defensive game with your unique unit, the Berber Cavalry, which receive combat bonuses in friendly territory, and in desert tiles. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Overall Morocco surprised me as a powerful civ, and not merely an Arabia lite. I like to play a trade-focused, diplomatic game with Morocco. An S-tier trading economy can only really be halted by diploamtic actions and geoploitical conflicts - don't let defense spending slip from your budget, or you may not live to write the next one! Particularly at deity difficulty, or other high-level civ difficulties!
