Komeyui Signature Dinner- Bitter Cherry Semifreddo with Soy Creme Anglaise
I have been fortunately to try a number of semifreddo. Unfortunately, this is not to my liking. Just a very average semi frozen ice cream, with a piece of meringue on top and soy creme at the bottom.
Overall experience:
For $180 a head, I am expecting a lot more gourmet and refined food. I don't think you get the value worth it. After a long period of lockdown, this is the first gourmet meal I had. I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it didn't stack up to my expectation.
Most importantly, I wasn't full, I was just not hungry. I am not a big eater. So, I am wondering how an average adult diner would feel after this meal.
The sushi bar degustation (also $180) appeared to book out weeks ahead. I did think if the signature dinner was good, I would come back and try the sushi bar degustation. However, given the quality and variety of food and service I received, I think I would save the money and spend it elsewhere.
Normally, for a degustation restaurant with this sort of price tag, you expect a more secluded environment. Yet, the restaurant is no different from any other slightly upper class Japanese restaurant. The restaurant decor inside was actually quite posh. However, it was packed with people (some with very young kids) with close distance and noise. People came in very casual clothes too.
They also demanded a 5% service charge on a normal day and 10% on public holiday and Sunday. Service wise, I really don't think there was much! We were placed on the table closest to the front door. The front door was constantly opened by people coming in and out without shutting and the cold air continuously blew in. We had asked to change table but they said they were fully booked (which it did appear they were.) We also told them about the issue but we ended up having to stand up a few times to ask the staff to close the door. Also, we ordered a mocktail and it was finished half way through our meal, but it was left on the table for the entire time. A restaurant with good service would clear that in no time. I think they sensed that we were not very happy with the service and waived the service charge at the end.
I will recommend going to places like Minamishima for similar price meal or simply go to a more gourmet Japanese restaurant for similar quality but much cheaper price.
