GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO is another beautiful movie about hope, as well as the power and mysteries of time. While, unfortunately, some people may dismiss an animated movie as something simply for children, that is far from the case.
This a heartwarming film that is simultaneously nostalgic (for those that have seen the original and other versions of the tale, and/or read the book) and stunningly new. The artistry of del Toro and the animation team brings this story to life in such a riveting way. Your eyes are glued to the screen and you enjoy the journey with the characters and feel for them. From Geppetto losing his son, to Pinocchio discovering what it really means to be human.
The detail that goes into this type of stop-motion animation is astounding. Every movement is done by hand, it’s a meticulous artistic process that requires a keen eye and an enormous amount of time. As Guillermo del Toro discusses in this interview, it is a rich artform worthy of respect.
