The Palace, designed by Italian Architect Giacomo Quarengi in the 18th century, is currently being restored in anticipation of the 300 anniversary of the city celebrations, and presents an interesting case study for adapting an old building to a new use.
The A.S.Popov Museum has been recently reopened in the historic Bezborodko Palace. The A.S. Popov Central Museum of Communications, one of the oldest museums of science and technology in the world, is located in the historic centre of St.-Petersburg, near Isaac Square.
The new museum’s exposition introduce not only valuable objects relating to the history of the development of postal service, telegraphy, telephony, radio, television, satellite and space communication, but also provides for visitors a good opportunity to familiarize themselves with the new achievements of Russian and foreign firms and companies working in telecommunication industry that experiences nowadays so rapid a development. The dinner takes place in the Great Hall. Throughout its long history the main Great Hall had been used for very different purposes: for various ceremonies and grand balls in the times of the Bezborodko family, for housing the Chapel of Twelve Apostles, used to be called also the "Postal Church", when the palace went to the Postal and Telegraph Department. In the present it is used for temporary exhibitions, for holding various international meetings and conferences, receptions, etc. The hall is 534 sq.m. with the height 12m. Can be used for up to 200 people for the sitting dinner.
The Avant-Hall is adjacent to the Grand State hall and also has superb palace decoration. When events are arranged in the Grand State hall, it is possible to arrange welcome cocktail in the Avant-Hall. The hall is 450 sq.m. with the height 12 m. Can be used for up to 150-200 people for standing reception.
