How to remove algae from pond without harming fish

So what we are doing on this garden pond is a full drain and clean. We have actually pumped out all of the pond water into holding vats and then we've basically taken the fish out and kept them in the mature pond water.

This is the safest way to look after your fish when removing algae or diluting algae from a fish pond.

The fish are not harmed as they always stay in the existing pond water. So they're not basically going into sterile city water conditions or not going into a brand-new water quality or water chemistry different to there current system.

So we're basically taking out all the fishpond water to make sure they are kept (the fish that is) in the original pond water.

Then we can basically get rid of all of the pond sludge and we're cleaning the pond out as part of our pond algae solutions.
We are getting rid of all of the sludge as this is what causes green algae in ponds.

Once the pond is clean and we have removed all the algae feeding pond waste. Then we put the fish back into the pond again in the original water and then top up with conditioned tap water.

So this is how to remove lots of the single celled algae and its food (green water) and that is 100% the best way to remove algae or even dilute the algae within a fish pond.

If you have a pond with no filter then doing a full drain and clean to get rid of all of that organic load and 50% of the green water at any one time.

If you've got a big filter system and you haven't got all of that organic load inside the pond. Then your filtration system can filter out the waste and any clumped algae, so that's another safe way to remove algae food and the dead free floating algae.

On this particular pond we've got no filtration at all there's not even any plants in at moment that's why we've got so much algae.

So the safest way to remove the algae without harming the fish, let's say for instance you just wanted to pump all of this green water away.

Some of the new people that contact us here at Any Pond Limited just tell us or ask us to get rid of all the green water. They say Mark pump it all the way to waste and just fill it full of nice clean tap water so we can start again from fresh.

Even if you put in all the tap water conditioners and everything that we can get as pond professionals or treatments from the your local retail centres. You with only have more problems down the line.

But i have done it for years just empty it and then we'll put the fish back in and thats how to get rid of algae in pond and we'll have a lovely gin clear pond water no problem.

Well heres just a word of warning, that is doing a 100-percent water change, that's a bad bad so BAD way, in fact that's a sterilisation service and you shouldn't put fish in for at least four to six weeks after that type of pond cleaning service.

So the safest way to remove green water is to do a dilution, but no more than fifty percent at ant one time so it's not a case of taking out all the water, not even seventy percent of the water.

We always recommend keep as much water as you possibly can but mechanically remove the organic waste and then add plants to fight the algae so you don’t have to get rid of the algae in your pond.
