Surfactant is very important to reduce the surface tension in the air liquid interface of the alveoli. Preterm babies (and some more mature babies like infant of diabetic mothers) are at high risk of surfactant deficiency, which leads to RDS. In this video, I discuss in a case based fashion the pathophysiology of RDS, role of antenatal steroids and surfactant therapy as an overview. Please share.
When the preterm babies need respiratory support with endotracheal intubation, there is a concern regarding whether to use sedation (like morphine or fentanyl infusion)-I discuss that in this short video.
