Today, we are going to learn the sound /aʊ/. And that sound /aʊ/ can be found in words like ‘mouse’, ‘house’, and ‘owl’.
The diphthong is the one speech sound that is formed by a combination of two vowels in a single syllable when the articulation of one vowel smoothly goes to another vowel.
So, as all of our diphthongs we pronounce the sound /aʊ/ using two vowel sounds: we start with the open jaw /a/ and then go to round lips to pronounce sound /ʊ/, like in the phrase “How proud”.
