Israeli security forces fired tear gas into crowds of Palestinian protesters on Friday after the demonstrators began burning tyres and flying kites (inset) over the Gaza border fence with the aim of setting fire to farmland inside the Jewish state. One Palestinian man was left with a canister embedded in his face in extraordinary scenes (main). The demonstrations coincide with Jerusalem Day, instituted by Iran to protest against Israeli rule of the holy city. It follows on from weeks of often deadly clashes over America's decision to relocate its embassy there, officially recognising the city as Israel's capital.
