Sonic & Tails are now inside the Death Egg. They can now attempt to destroy it once and for all, and take back the Master Emerald Eggman stole from Knuckles & the Hidden Palace!

Act 1 has Sonic within the interior of the Death Egg, full of engines and long batteries to travel through.

Its boss is its internal defense system, and, if you're not Super/Hyper at the most, one of the most annoyingly hard bosses in the game. It has two phases.

Phase 1: It's a tower of a single eye that attacks you with a ring of spheres. Strike the eye, and each of those spheres explode into flying spikes. Then when it loses all of its spheres, it moves onto its second phase.

Phase 2: The eye is actually a small pod that breaks itself apart from the tower, and then pursues Sonic on its own with bottom-spiked platforms. Just hit the eye some more, but then it turns, red, hostile, and dangerous as it fires a beam to the ground while twirling its platforms more quickly.

If you manage to beat it from here, you'll beat Act 1. This is the last time you see the signpost proving this in Sonic & Tails' story. Afterwards, the floor gives way and transports Sonic through the destroyed tower, into Act 2: The exterior of the Death Egg. Tthe Earth can now be seen in the background.

Act 2 plays with the gravity by only flipping Sonic upside-down. His vertical controls aren't changed, but the original plan for this game was to make it so.

Sonic & Tails eventually reach Eggman once again, with the battle being similar to Flying Battery's ceiling laser in that Eggman attacks you behind a barrier or wall.

Make the purple mini-Death Egg hurt it self by manipulating the gravity so that the spikes of its drones hit it.

When that's done, Sonic & Tails can finally confront the Doctor himself, but he once again proves that he can outrun them, and jumps inside a new Death Egg Robot: The Great Eggman Robo!

This Robot is much more massive compared to Sonic 2's version, to the point that you can't even see its bottom half.

Phase 1: It first attacks by slamming its fingers on you. Destroy the fingers.

Phase 2: With no hands to kill you with, he now makes a slow charge at you, destroying the ground as he goes and breathing nose fire at you. Hit the nose of the robot to make it drop its chest, and reveal that it's being powered by the Master Emerald!

Just keep hitting the glass containing the Master Emerald while also avoiding the massive lasers being fired from it. If you can manage that enough times, the Robot gets destroyed, and with it, the entirety of the Death Egg falling apart.

Phase 3: This part is just epic. With seemingly nothing left to help him out but his Egg Mobile, Eggman now tries to escape the incoming wrath Sonic is about to bring upon him, desperately stealing away the Master Emerald one last time. All you can do at this point is make Sonic hit Eggman 8 more times, all while not dying off the crumbling left side of the stage.

After that, his Egg Mobile starts to burn again. He drops the Master Emerald and leaves, leaving Sonic & Tails to die in the destruction of the Death Egg.

Or so he thought, anyway. If Sonic got 0-6 of the regular Chaos Emeralds, the game would end at this point.

But since Sonic can turn into Hyper Sonic, the game has just one more zone left. How Tails managed to escape this is beyond me, however...
