Pál (Paul) Hermann (1902-1944), 'La ceinture' and 'La dormeuse' - performed at the first "Missing Voices" concert on Feb. 8th in the Sweelinckzaal of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, by Dimitri Malignan (Piano)
Paul Hermann was an extremely talented Cellist and Composer, born in Budapest, and who lived in Berlin, the Netherlands, Brussels and Paris. He wrote his Piano Suite in 1924. A student of Bartók and Kodaly, one can feel the Hungarian influence on this piece, but also a certain French style and harmonies.
Paul Hermann was arrested in Toulouse, deported from Drancy via the Convoy n°73 on 15th May 1944, and murdered either in Kaunas or Tallinn. His exact fate is unknown. May his memory be a blessing.
