Since its founding more than 50 years ago, Barrett-Jackson has built its culture on charity, and thanks to the generosity of the collector car community, Barrett-Jackson has raised more than $135 million for philanthropic causes over the past five decades. Donated vehicles are always among the top-selling Lots at each auction, with 100% of the hammer price going to a variety of charitable organizations. Thursday’s Collector Car Auction saw the sale of three such special vehicles — the first of 10 for the entire auction.
Lot 3000, a 2009 Cadillac CTS 4-Door Sedan, was the personal car of late actor, racer and racing team owner James Garner. The pristine Black Cherry sedan with the “MAVROCK” license plate sold for $100,000, with 100% of the hammer price going to the James Garner Animal Rescue Fund. Founded in 2019 by Garner’s daughter, Gigi, the organization honors the memory of the animal lover by supporting rescue organizations, shelters, fosters and vets.
With a hammer price of $500,000, Lot 3001, a one-off 2021 Ford Bronco “Bronco 66” First Edition Model, brought the audience to its feet. The vehicle was introduced by Henry Ford III, grandson of the automotive titan, and Aaron Shelby, grandson of the legendary Carroll Shelby, board member of Carroll Shelby International and co-president of the Carroll Shelby Foundation. One hundred percent of the sale price of the 1966 Bronco-inspired SUV benefits the Pope Francis Center, which provides services to homeless individuals.
Bidding also was fierce for Lot 3002, the sleek 1965 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C CSX 6086. Completed by Speedway Classic Cars in Las Vegas, NV, and donated by NASCAR Cup Series driver Aric Almirola, who piloted the car onto the block, the striking black two-seater with red Le Mans stripes sold for $280,000, with 100% of the hammer price going to Mayo Clinic.
Hundreds of rolling showpieces crossed the auction block on Thursday. Cheers echoed through the arena when the gavel fell on the day’s first six-figure sale: Lot 717.1, a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport Custom SUV, sold for $110,000. The excitement increased throughout the afternoon, with additional notable sales.
Complete results for Thursday’s auction are available on the online docket.
