The current economic downturn in China has led to the closure of numerous factories, continuous layoffs, and a grim employment landscape, increasing the difficulty for young people to find jobs. Many are struggling to find work, facing uncertain futures and difficult circumstances. Some are forced to take temporary jobs, such as day laborers. Others have even ended up on the streets, becoming colloquially known as the "Sanhe Gods." (note: this is pronounced San HER) They have adopted a unique work pattern: they work for one day, rest for three days, and receive a daily wage of 100 Yuan. This name originated from a group of mainly male migrant workers trapped by circumstances in the harsh reality of China’s rapid economic growth. This group, emerging from the labor markets in Shenzhen, symbolizes the challenges faced by many at the fringes of urban life in rapidly developing areas. This unemployment wave not only causes distress for individuals struggling to make a living, but it also reflects the turbulence and instability within the broader social structure.
