In this video I show you the process that I went through to restore this antique garden bench. I also share some of my thoughts about how I was going to go about it and what wood I decided to choose.
I got this old bench for free and I wanted to restore it to be a nice sitting bench.
List of things that I did:
- Powder Coated Bench Ends (Cast Iron) and braces (Semi-Gloss Black) ($200)
- Cleaned old hardware to be reused (Original (Antique) Silicon Bronze)
- Purchased new Screws for braces (Brass)
- Purchased new 1 new nut that was lost for original hardware (Brass)
- Purchased raw Honduran Mahogany for slats ($100) (16 board feet @ 1", 4ft extra included)
- Cut and shaped Boards into bench slats (3 boards @ 1.5", 9 boards @ 2.25")
- Coated wood in Polyurethane for Outdoor use (brushed on) (4 coats)
