Transient tachypnea of newborn, what do you mean by Transient tachypnea of newborn? Normal inside the womb, the baby’s lung is filled with fluids. That is because the baby secretes the walls or the side most areas of the lungs or the alveolus, the terminal portion of the lungs where it seems to happens. It is lined with certain cells and through which it secretes where, the secretory path. So inside the womb, the baby’s lung is fully filled with fluids. At the time of delivery due to various hormones which occur during the natural physiological process off delivery, the secretion of fluid changes into absorption of fluids, which happens during the normal process of labor. If a merger is taken for elective caesarean section, that means she is not in labor and she is taken in for a caesarean section. This transition from a secretory to an absorptive doesn’t happen. One, which has been secreting has to change to absorption. Since a normal physiological process doesn’t happen during an elective caesarean section, the fluid stays there in the lung. It doesn’t clear. It stays there for sometime and the baby has a respiratory distress, fast breathing at birth. It takes about 2 to 3 days to a maximum of 7 days for the fluid to get cleared and the baby requires some oxygen support for this respiratory distress to heal. This is called as Transient tachypnea of newborn. Besides this elective caesarean section, a male baby has a higher chances of getting this Transient tachypnea of new born, mother being an asthmatic mother. If the mother has asthma, then the baby has a higher chance of getting Transient tachypnea of newborn. If the mother has insulin dependant diabetes mellitus, if the mother is a diabetic mother on insulin, there is a higher chance of the mother to get a Transient tachypnea of newborn. These are various reason why a baby gets a Transient tachypnea of newborn, or a fluid inside the lungs.
