NORTH WALES CHOIR FESTIVAL
A FESTIVAL that invites choirs from across Ireland, England and Wales to compete against each other was held in Llandudno.
The North Wales Choir Festival was held at Venue Cymru, Llandudno between March-5-6, and saw over 700 choir members compete throughout the weekend to be crowned champions.
The event opened on Saturday, 5 March with Haraya Choir winning the Mixed Voice choir competition, the London-based acapella choir beating Valley Aloud Community Choir and Trust Singers, who finished second and third respectively.
Later in the day, Cantamus Girls Choir from Mansfield in Nottinghamshire took first place in the Youth competition, with Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Youth Choir in second, and Valley Voices third.
Sunday’s competitions opened with the Just for Fun category, which saw Haraya Choir yet again take first place, followed by Dun Laoghaire Musical Society in second and Valley Aloud claiming another podium place in third.
Following this, the Ladies choirs category saw Kettering-based Belcanto finish first, with Cheshire Chord Company in second and Knutsford Star Choir in third.
Natalie Hughes of Events Conwy said: “The festival is a real boost for Llandudno as it attracts visitors in what has traditionally been the low season.
“The Choir Festival amongst other events is fundamental to establishing Conwy County as a year-round destination.
“A big thank you to all our sponsors, Llandudno Hospitality Association, Llandudno Town Council, Aberconwy Car and Van Hire, and Visit Conwy, who’ve all contributed to make this event possible by working with Conwy County Borough Council.”
Next year’s North Wales Choir Festival dates are confirmed as 4-5 March 2023 and for further information visit www.northwaleschoirfestival.com.
